[ Up Fabian meanders in his slow placid sort of way. He drapes his arms over the podium and links those bony fingers for a moment before deciding this question would be best delivered around a cigarette. Once that's been taken care of, he goes back to previous posture. ]

Do you fear death; do you long for it? Does death inspire a curiosity or a paralysis within your thoughts? Have you put great thought in to after death? Do you have your own personal belief?

Ah, Hieronymus Bosch. [ don't mind him for opening the bottle. He'd say it was one of those nights but it is often one of those nights. ] I thoroughly enjoy his works but I confess I enjoy Beksiński more.

[ he takes a moment. Spacing out? Fantasizing? Who knew. After said moment he realizes the ash on his cigarette is getting long. ] You didn't answer any of my questions.

[ Nate doesn't expect him to, and to be fair, since he hasn't personally tried this particular brand of what is essentially Georgian moonshine, it may be for the best. ]

Presumably Bosch would ease your students into that.

No, I didn't. [ The answer comes out very laconic when it easily could have been very abrupt, and there's a hint of smile to further muddle matters. ] Would they really do you any good?

[ Seeing as Fabian seems pretty spacey at the moment. ]

Why do you ask?

[ The orange light in her eyes dims for a second as she tips her head. She sees no particular reason to worry about the prospect. ]

Well, that's all right. Everyone's got to get filled in somehow.

[ Most of the people she knows have spent a few centuries dead. It breeds a certain sympathy for the learning curve. ]

Is the intoxication the reason for your focus on death?

Curiosity, of course. Is it not curiosity which inspires question at all?

What good has easing ever done? [ No, no. He's opening it. Are you kidding? And while he's flattered by your addressing his current state, in time you'll get used to it. It's not really something to be alarmed by or worried over as much as it's the common state of Fabian Malstrom after 5PM. ]

Likely not, but my curiosity is ever the hungry.

[ Well congratulations on finding someone who's escaped death for a long time and now regrets it. He folds his hands after finishing his smoke. Well, let's start then. ]

I wish to make no assumptions, so please: tell me of you.

It wins you appreciation from people who don't usually have problems sleeping at night.

Nate is somewhat amused to see Fabian opening the bottle, if not in a judgmental way, because he has no room for that. It's funny because then Fabian's not that different from previous artist friends Nate has known. It puts him in mind of classic exchanges along the lines of "this is meant to be drunk in small glasses" and "well we don't have any small glasses," with memory becoming hazy shortly after. ]

I haven't put a lot of thought into it. Not beyond the basic physical realities. Should I ask you about your beliefs, or just wait to see your art?

[ A strange request - but perhaps she's gotten used to being among people to whom her circumstances are obvious, who need only ask a couple of questions. Maybe three. Either way she's a bit flummoxed. ]

Oh. Uh, my name's Blaze-37. I'm a Guardian, from the city. I guess you could call me new at the job, seeing how it's only a couple of years since they woke me up. I'm Titan-class - specialized for heavy offense. That's a lot of fun.

[ Fabian laughs, like actually laughs which is kind of rare he being a more subtle creature. Then again, intoxication. But more it's because: Are you always so stiff? ]

How do you feel about art, professor? [ The answer is no. ]

[He frowns in that way that suggests that he's left out of the joke and he knows it. Plus, art. He knows nothing about art.]

It's not something I've spent much time on. I don't enjoy it particularly and I don't see much use in it. So I leave it to other people.

[Also the answer is yes, he's always this stiff.]

[ Fabian is 100% stereotypical artist. He just also happens to be a nature loving witch on the side of that. You've been warned- if you haven't already noticed.

Anyhow, Fabian waves a hand. Indeed, who wants anything to do with those people. No cup, but there is a lid. Innovation is what it's all about. ] Certainly you do not fall under that bore of an umbrella.

[ He's not sure how he feels about this. The liquor, that is. ] You should do as you please and I will act in kind.

[ Wonderful. You are his new best friend until you're not. He loves awkward stiff men who just can't quite seem to follow the madness that is an artist. ]

Ah, yes. You prefer the known and uncovering what is concrete and understandable.

[ You are 100% something he's never seen before and that's not to say he's not seen things that are explainable or unknown. He's a witch as well as an artist, you see. He knows the supernatural well, but nothing like you. ]

Apologies if my questions seem dull to you, I have never seen such a being as you before. I come from trees and snow and wild animals. [ Like, he barely uses a cellphone and his knowledge of whatever technology the world has decided to conjure up is really extremely outdated. He's aware of some of it, he just doesn't... care. ]

Just a little hazy on what you'd want to know. I haven't talked to many people who aren't Guardians, myself. Human or otherwise. Definitely not people from out in the wilds.

[ She's heard there are some out there, scraping by in small bands and tiny, huddled enclaves. But for all intents and purposes the civilized world to her is nestled in one fortified city she's never stopped to explore. ]

So you're from somewhere... northern-ish, right? [ He started explaining himself, does that mean it's her turn with the questions? ]

[ One day Nate will find that out and despair (more than usual), because he could actually use the help. Even if it involved crystals. ]

It is most certain that very few things cross my ears that I do not want to know so please, if you have habit of talking then talk away. [ He minds not a mutual conversation which entails of both asking and listening. ]

Not really. [ He offers the drink. Go one, you bought it. ] Art has a profound impact on some people. Art has caused ire, sorrow, and madness in viewers. I think that a well crafted piece of art should inspire an emotional reaction whether good or ill.

Many artists, sad to say, are simply not good artists.

[ its in the way people use them or purchase them, dear Nate. They belong in nature not store shelves. If you want something of the earth, find it there. ]

[ Such advice would inspire no confidence, and direct him back to the mindset of drinking one's supernatural problem into submission. Which is no doubt why he accepts a taste despite his better judgment. With a little grimace, he hands it back immediately. ]

I'm willing to accept kind mediocrity in lieu of disturbing profundity. I don't think it's as common as it seems. And the next time I want to share a cultural product from Abkhazia, maybe I'll choose something else.

All right, then. I'm not exactly the shy type. [ She gives him a cheerful nod. Stereotypically, Hunters are taciturn, Warlocks are secretive - or maybe the other way round, Blaze doesn't keep them straight. She does know she's not any of those things. ]

I've been up that way a bit. Not your part, I think: there was more tundra, not so many trees. Are there other people where you live?

[More frowning. Fabian somehow makes it sound simple and dull.]

I prefer understanding the world I'm in. Not wasting my time being mesmerised by colours and nonsensical shapes.

[ Perhaps because it is. How can you truly understand nature if you narrow your mind to accept only what is - in your capacity to think - logical. Skepticism is not something he's against. Honestly, compared to many who practice what he does he is considered extremely skeptical but you can't understand anything id you don't let yourself think beyond what you already know. ]

These things are a part of the world that you are in. Should you want a true understanding of it, you may wish to broaden your peripherals.
