Always do what you are afraid to do. [ It seems a little embarrassing now, given the bent of their conversation. ]

Unfortunately, it's a rather self-centered motto, but I guess I'm not immune to that, either. [ But it's not like she's a self-centered person (she thinks), so it's fine. Isn't it? ]

Thank you. Emerson also said "Do the thing you fear most and the death of fear is certain," which is similar, but not quite the same. I prefer "Always do what you are afraid to do," though.

Half true, I think. Fear is sometimes elusive and you may feel no fear until put in a situation you thought was completely under control. Fear can also be survival mechanism, if we want to get technical about it.

I don't think fear is bad at all but it is wise to try and face it or in some context, accept and understand it's purpose.

Oh, no, I don't think fear is all bad. But fear stops us from doing the right thing too often, and if you don't do the small things you're afraid to do, how can you expect to face your fear when it really matters?
