I require a bit of sound financial advice, please!
( this oughta be good. )
Now. If a lady wished to have-- to have a firmer hand upon the purse, but she particularly did not desire to trouble her husband-- you see he simply has no head for these things! I'm certain that I would do very well, if only I were to, at least if I might, well I don't see any reason why I shouldn't have a try.
( and lydia could scarcely do worse than wickham, let's be real, even if she's not rightly any less extravagant than he is. and even if a good deal of the extravagance that's variously got them into financial hot water has been wickham not bothering to reign her in when he really should have. )
I wish to know how I might go about this without distressing him in any way. I should hate nothing more than to do my poor husband's pride an injury, particularly when he is so recently delivered from injustice! ( it just happens that she might have taken a good long look at the situation in which they so recently ended up and thought she'd really sort of like not to end up in it again. she can't stop wickham from impregnating serving girls with angry brothers, but perhaps she might be able to try keeping their heads about financial water? )
And, obviously, I should like your thoughts on the doing. I've never been called upon to keep a budget! How exciting.

[ Gisela's gonna guess that this lady isn't going to be using any computer software, so this will have to all be done by hand. ]
First off, are you striving for any kind of long-term goal? Like a house, or...?

( now that they're going off to America, darcy can probably be prevailed upon for all kinds of starter assistance for the simple fact that he will be pleased by nothing so much as seeing the back of the wickhams for the rest of his natural life. lydia strongly feels that regardless of what drives such generosity, they ought to wring every drop of it before they leave. they shan't be calling on it again, of that she's sure. )

But. A really honest look at your own current spending is next on the list. That is probably the hardest part, tallying up all the tiny purchases that are easy to rationalize at the time.

[Penny does not care about the budget stuff or how to not-annoy a husband about money crap. She cares about dirty, dirty gossip. Priorities.
also note she is not mentioning the jane austen-y clothes. at all. hmm.]
