[Nice place, this. Terribly pretty. Amazingly safe. The kind of place an Exo can pull her helmet off for a while and think long enough to find a question worth offering at the podium.]
How are you supposed to know if you’ve 'settled in' someplace? If you’ve made it home?

[Not the most helpful answer he could've given, but at least it's truthful. He's had places to hang his hat before. None of them are what he'd refer to as being home, though. The closest thing that came to it in his mind was walking the streets of New York, that feeling of hunting down criminals in the night. That had always felt more real to him than any of the places he'd lain down to rest.]

[Not exactly weird - nowhere near as strange as, say, this guy's mask. She just had a vague idea humans (or Awoken, for that matter) normally started out with one. Still, 'how come?' seems like it'd be a dumb question to her.]
That's a shame. Must make it hard to survive out there.

Survival's easy. Living's harder.
[He sees a distinct difference between the two of them. Survival is all just base animal instinct: eat, sleep, fornicate, and repeat. 99% of the population seem content with just getting along that way. To truly live is to make one's own way in the world. Get off the beaten path and think outside the box. To live like that is something he'd never trade, not for all the creature comforts in the world.]

Easy's kind of an overstatement, but then who'd want to settle for just surviving? Holding out isn't much of an end goal.

Most do. Go about their lives without seeking more. No way to live. Got to be better than that.

[ ...She was a creation of the Golden Age, after all. ]
Well, yeah. Either you push back the Darkness or it kills you slowly. I'd think everyone understands that. Even if most of them don't have the strength to do the fighting.
